Next Sunday Soup: June 26, applications due June 13 (applications available online)
Congratulations to the artists who presented at the first Sunday Soup! Warren Bogan, Margie Guyot, Johamy Morales, and Todd Springer had five minutes each to present their work in hopes of walking away with community donations.
More than $500 was raised at Traverse City's first Sunday Soup. Funding when to Johamy Morales' project, Voices of Now, which works with the Students in Transition Empowerment Program (STEP) to create a theatrical work about homelessness.
STEP is a free program of the Traverse City Area Public Schools that ensures the educational rights of families and youth who lack fixed, regular, and adequate housing. The goal of the program is to ensure school stability, remove barriers to full participation in education, and support academic achievement while children are in residential transition.
"Throughout my research I have become aware of the problem of homelessness that many students experience here in Traverse City. I feel that it is essential for the community to begin a dialog in order to educate one another and create social change." Johamy said.
This fall, students will spend five weeks devising and developing a theatrical work on the issue of homelessness. During this time they will learn how to work together and use theater as a free form of expression. Studets will perform their finished piece for the community.

This is a misleading headline. I thought that you were getting together a bunch of homeless kids and doing Hamlet. I was thinking that this would be a horrible and slightly cruel idea - I'm sure the last thing homeless kids want to do is put on a play! :)
Humbly suggest you consider a different headline, like "Sunday Soup Raises over $5000 for Youth Theatre Project for Homeless"
