April Events

April 12th -
Edible Forest Gardening Lecture - 7pm to 9pm at the Michigan Works Building [directions] in Traverse City, MI: A lecture on “Gardening Like the Forest: Home-Scale Ecological Food Production” will be presented by Dave Jacke, author of the two volume set Edible Forest Gardening. Dave is an engaging and passionate teacher of ecological design and permaculture, and a meticulous designer. For details, visit our website, www.ARTmeetsEARTH.org. This free event is open to the public. Donations are appreciated. This is a Great Lakes Bioneers Conference pre-event.

April 13th - Edible Forest Gardening Workshop - 8:30am to 4:30pm at the MSU NW Horticultural Research Station [directions] in Traverse City, MI: A day-long workshop on “Gardening Like the Forest: Fundamentals of Ecological Gardening” will be presented by Dave Jacke. The lecture will start at the MSU NW Horticultural Research Station in the morning and continue at the Eco-Learning Center (weather permitting) for hands-on learning. April 16 - Exhibit: The PRINT SHOW Area Printmakers: Krell, Toornman, Pastotnik, Hitz, McCune, others and Workshops - 1-4 p.m.: Opening; Exhibit runs April 16 - May 5 at the Jordan River Arts Center. For details, please visit their website, www.jordanriverarts.org.

April 21 - Northern Michigan Environmental Action Council's 17th Annual Environmentalist of the Year Celebration - 6-9pm. For detials, please visit their website, www.nmeac.org.

April 22 - Earth Day Parade -
The parade line-up begins at the corner of 7th and Pine Sts., at Central Grade School in Traverse City. The Earth Day Parade will begin at 1:00 PM and wind its way from 8th St., left on to Union, right on to State, left on Park, left on Front, left on Union and right onto 6th St. to Hannah Park where (weather permitting) a special puppet and mask performance will take place, as well as a Community Potluck and Picnic. April 22 - Unity Grand Opening - Unity, a new fair trade shop in Traverse City, will be opening its doors for the first time on Earth Day. ISLAND will house some of its library in Unity, and we are excited to show off our books! Please check back for more details.
