Who we are

ISLAND’s primary and foremost project is the Red Pine Roost*, which will be a physical community space on fifteen to fifty acres of land in Northwestern Lower Michigan. The Red Pine Roost is a residency program for artists of many stripes – visual and performance artists, writers, filmmakers and musicians – as well as a grab bag of ecologically minded thinkers: natural designers, sustainable materials builders, naturalists, land use planners, craftspeople and alternative energy professionals.

Furthermore, the Red Pine Roost, through the auspices of ISLAND, will work to expand the enriching work on our land to the larger community of Northwest Lower Michigan through workshops, lecture and film series, community events, and participating in other organizations’ events.
